The road consists of 10 miles of pavement and 3 miles of dirt. This is the best road into Bodie. For the most up-to-date road conditions for California's roads, please visit the CalTrans website: https://roads.dot.ca.gov/roadscell.php?roadnumber=270 *Please note that it takes approximately 30-40 minutes to travel to Bodie from US 395 by way of SR 270 and approximately 30-45 minutes from SR 167 by way of Cottonwood Canyon Road. A gold-mining boom town held in what the park calls arrested decay — buildings stabilised but never restored. High, exposed and remote above Bridgeport, with a museum in one of the surviving buildings.
