About Horseshoe Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area (Alexander County)

Bald cypress, tupelo gum, swamp cottonwood and wild lotus give this 10,200-acre site the feel of the Deep South, around a shallow 2,400-acre lake. Bought in 1927 as a Canada goose sanctuary, it is now for camping, boating, fishing and hunting.
