About Smithgall Woods State Park

5,844 acres of Blue Ridge escarpment given to the state by Charles Smithgall, reclaimed from nineteenth-century hydraulic gold mining. Dukes Creek is one of north Georgia's premier trout streams, fished by reservation on set days only.
