⚠️ Annual Trail Closures

For the safety of guests, staff, and local rescue services, many of the park's trails are closed annually May 15 - September 30. The Trails include: White Domes Loop, Fire Wave/Seven Wonders Loop/Pastel Canyon/Pink Canyon, Pinnacles Loop, Propect Trail, Arrowhead Trail, Natural Arch Trail (excluding Arch Rock), and Charlie's Spring. These trails have a history of frequent medical calls, search and rescue missions, and fatalities during this time of year. Unfortunately, the demand is more than we are able to safely manage.

Annual Maintenance Closure
Each year, Valley of Fire State Park closes to visitors from December 1 through December 14. This temporary closure allows staff to address critical maintenance needs and focus exclusively on park upkeep. With nearly one million visitors annually, ongoing staffing shortages and extreme summer temperatures make it challenging to balance maintenance, emergency response, and visitor services during the busy season. During the closure, the park is closed to all visitors, including those entering on foot. Camping reservations are not available, and all commercial activities such as weddings, photo shoots, and guided tours, are prohibited.

About Valley of Fire State Park

Forty thousand acres of bright red Aztec sandstone rising out of grey and tan limestone, holding petrified wood and petroglyphs more than 2,000 years old. The visitor center covers the geology and prehistory before you head out onto the rock.
