About Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site

The remains of a trading town settled on the Ashley River in 1697: a brick bell tower added in 1751, a fort of oyster-shell tabby built in 1757, and a log wharf that surfaces at low tide. Archaeologists still work the site, and visitors can watch.
