About Dismal Swamp State Park

The way into the Great Dismal Swamp, the largest remaining swamp in the eastern United States, with a history running through George Washington, the Underground Railroad, and Prohibition. The 22-mile Dismal Swamp Canal is the paddling draw.

Entrance fee

Free entry — There are no fees required to access Dismal Swamp State Park for day use, except for boat rentals. Fees are also charged certain event permits and facility reservations.

Hours

January–February: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

March–October: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

November–December: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The park is open during all other holidays.

Open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Open Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
