North Carolina State Park
Lake Phelps and the Scuppernong River, where wintering tundra swans gather beneath cavernous cypress archways. Dugout canoes thousands of years old have been raised from the lake, and neighboring Somerset Place preserves a plantation worked by enslaved people.
Free entry — There are no fees required to access Pettigrew State Park for day use. Fees are charged for camping, certain event permits, and facility reservations.
January–February: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
March–May: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
June–August: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
September–October: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
November–December: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The park is open during all other holidays.
Open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
