North Carolina State Park
The shore of the largest Carolina bay, and one of the few of those 500,000 craters holding open water rather than vegetation. A limestone bluff cuts the acidity enough for aquatic species found nowhere else, and a dam bridge opens the full 14-mile shoreline.
Free entry — There are no fees required to access Lake Waccamaw State Park for day use. Fees are charged for camping, certain event permits, and facility reservations.
January–February: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
March–April: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
May–September: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
October: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
November: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
December: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The park is open during all other holidays.
