North Carolina State Park
Two accesses about an hour apart on a 115-mile blackwater river — the only one in the state named a National Wild and Scenic River. Paddling is the draw, past belted kingfishers and the rare Carolina bogmint.
Free entry — There are no fees required to access Lumber River State Park for day use. Fees are charged for camping, certain event permits and facility reservations.
January–February: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
March–April: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
May–September: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
October: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
November: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
December: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The park is open during all other holidays.
Open Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
