North Carolina State Park
Seven accesses on a National Wild and Scenic River that flows north through three states, gentle enough for tubes and first-time paddlers. Paddle-in campgrounds keep it remote, and the hellbender, the largest salamander in the country, lives in the valley.
Free entry — There are no fees required to access New River State Park for day use. Fees are charged for camping, certain event permits, and facility reservations.
January–February: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
March–April: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
May–September: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
October: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
November: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
December: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The park is open during all other holidays.
Open Mondays to Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
