About Hanging Rock State Park

A Civilian Conservation Corps park whose trails reach mountain views, rock outcrops, waterfalls, and a cave. A swim lake, vacation cabins, and paddling on the Dan River round it out, alongside bridle and bike trails and the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail.

Entrance fee

Free entry — There are no fees required to access Hanging Rock State Park for day use, except for boat rentals and swim passes. Fees are charged for camping, group climbing, certain event permits, and facility reservations.

Hours

January: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

February: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

March–April: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

May–September: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

October: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

November: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

December: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Campers and cabin guests must arrive prior to the closing hour, after which the park gate is closed for the night.
